I’m wanting to start a new series on the blog for all the current projects I have going on. The big sewing related project I have at the moment is an old fashioned friendship style quilt for American Civil War reenactments. I’ve been wanting an old fashioned looking quilt for both my home and for events, and my Mum came up with an amazing idea for the quilt.
One day after I told her that I was going to make my own quilt she started telling me about friendship quilts and that she had an idea for my quilt. She came up with the idea of embroidering all the events I’ve gone to and all the events I will go to on all the quilt blocks. The quilt will keep me warm and it’s a way to remember what events I’ve been to and where they were located.
So that’s what I’m going to do! After the quilt is made of course. I’ve been working on and off on this quilt since either the end of 2017 or the beginning of last year…..I can’t remember which one exactly. I’ve decided that this is the year that I finish the quilt and my deadline for the quilt is before an event in November. I can totally finish it before then, but you know things happen, haha.
At the moment I have eight completely finished quilt blocks with borders, and about seven or eight on their way to be completely finished. I’ve sewed the majority of the quilt blocks by hand off and on and that’s what took me the longest to do. I quickly became bored and tired of sewing the blocks by hand, which is why I’m sewing the borders on the blocks with the sewing machine!
The above blocks are called ‘Calico Puzzle’ and the one below is called ‘Log Cabin.’
The next two blocks are called ‘Kentucky Crossroads.’
For the life of me I can’t remember what the above three blocks are called at the moment. I’ll have to look into that later on. I’m hoping that by the end of May I’ll have all the blocks with their completed borders sewn on! Then I can start piecing them all together! What projects are you currently working on?
