Reenacting Memories….Part 1

I don’t remember how I got started in reenacting, but I used to go to quite a few events. I would do a mixture of camping events and day events. I wanted to share a few pictures and stories from these events with y’all..

2014 Battle of Pleasant Hill…

My first camping event was the Battle of Pleasant Hill 2014. When my dear friend Sarah and I first arrived the guys were still being very busy and putting up tents and getting all the firewood they thought we would need for the weekend.

This is what our camp looked like when we arrived!

Shortly after we unpacked our home for the weekend Sarah changed into one of her dresses. I decided to opt out and still wear 21st century clothes since the event didn’t start until the next day.

Here she is being very helpful and sewing buttons on one of the guy’s coats. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat and have taken pictures while she sews buttons. That’s now a tradition- the men come to her to sew on their buttons that just keep falling off, and I sit and take pictures. I think it’s a pretty good tradition if I do say so myself. (;

This event is what started our tradition of always bringing tea and having mini tea parties. It’s a nice thing to do in the afternoon while waiting for the battle to start. The battle at Pleasant Hill is always really neat and fairly long- which is nice!

This look on my face…I have no explanation for. I think someone said something that caused me to give this look…or it could be the fact that I touched wet food. Who knows? Anyway on to the ball! There were *a lot* of people at the ball and it became *quite* crowded. Sarah and I only stayed for a few dances, but we still had a lot of fun!

We woke up on Sunday to it POURING rain outside. Everyone quickly got dressed and tried to break camp when the storm let up. Here are the guys all huddled together under one of the remaining tent fly’s. After we broke camp we all went into town to eat at Denny’s. We were still in our 19th century garb and we were wet and muddy, but we still had a fantastic time!

2016 Battle of Pleasant Hill…

In 2016 when I went I made a put together lunch that was quite delicious if I do say so myself. I made a chicken and rice dish in my dutch oven. The ladies who enjoyed it with me agreed that it was the fire, the cast iron, and (of course) the fresh rosemary that made the dish perfect.

After lunch we ‘chilled out’ aka. we went and relaxed/took naps in our tent. While two of us took a nap one of the ladies was busy making our dinner. She made a very yummy beef and vegetable stew.

Later on the group went to the ball, then came back and had campfire visits. Campfire visits is when we go visit the campfire of good friends and sit and talk for hours to catch up. They’re a lot of fun and a great way to spend the rest of the evening before bed.

Here are some other pictures I took of the event:
